Geographical Background

Western Visayas is located in Central Philippines and lies between two (2) large bodies of water, namely; the Sibuyan Sea and the Visayan Sea. The Region is composed of six (6) provinces: Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo and Negros Occidental. The Region has a total land area of 20,223.2 sq km, or approximately 6.74 percent of the total land area of the Philippines.

The region's agricultural production declined by 2.07 percent in 2016. The crops subsector which comprised 53.70 percent of the region's agricultural production was down by 5.0 percent. Outputs from the fisheries subsector dropped by 2.73 percent. It shared 19.22 percent. Production increases were 5.26 and 4.25 percent in the livestock and poultry subsectors, respectively.
